Frequently Asked Questions
How do I open my clipboard history?
Press ⌘⇧V anywhere, or click the CopyPasta icon in the menu bar. The strip appears with everything you have copied recently — text, links, images, colors and files. You can change the hotkey in Settings → Shortcuts.
How do I paste an item?
Click any card in the strip, or press ⌘1–⌘9 to paste the corresponding item directly into the app you were using. You can also drag a card straight into any document.
Pasting does nothing — what's wrong?
Direct pasting requires the macOS Accessibility permission. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and make sure CopyPasta is enabled. After granting the permission, restart the app. Without it, CopyPasta still copies the item to your clipboard — you can paste manually with ⌘V.
The menu bar icon disappeared
macOS hides menu bar icons when the bar runs out of space (especially on MacBooks with a notch). Try removing icons you don't need (⌘-drag them off the bar), or use the ⌘⇧V hotkey — the app keeps working even when the icon is not visible. If the icon never appears after login, quit and relaunch CopyPasta, and if the problem persists, contact us.
Is my clipboard history private?
Yes. Your history is stored only on your Mac, encrypted with AES-256, with the key kept in the macOS Keychain. Nothing you copy is ever sent to our servers, and smart recognition (cards, links, colors, phone numbers) runs entirely on-device. See our Privacy Policy for the details.
How does the sharing feature work?
Sharing is optional and off by default. When you start a session, your Mac generates an encryption key locally and relays end-to-end encrypted items to the recipient's browser; the key itself never touches our server, and nothing is stored there. Closing the app or ending the session immediately makes the page inaccessible.
How long are items kept?
You decide: Settings → Storage → Keep History (from 1 day up to forever). Pinned items are never deleted automatically. You can also delete individual items, clear a whole tab, or wipe all storage from Settings.
How do I pin or rename an item?
Click the pin icon on a card to keep it permanently in the Pinned tab. Right-click a card for more actions, including renaming it — handy for cards and colors.
Purchases, subscriptions and refunds
Purchases are processed by Apple. To restore a purchase on a new Mac, open Settings inside CopyPasta and use Restore Purchases while signed in with the same Apple ID. Subscriptions are managed in App Store → your account → Subscriptions. For refunds, use Apple's Report a Problem page — Apple handles all refund decisions.
How do I uninstall CopyPasta?
Quit the app (menu bar icon → right-click → Quit), then move CopyPasta from Applications to the Trash. Your encrypted history database can be removed from ~/Library/Application Support/ if you want to erase it completely.
